Vintage Navajo Native American Carved Red Clay Pottery Bowl Perfina Rockwell
Vintage Navajo Native American carved red clay pottery bowl Perfina Rockwell. A wonderful vintage carved red clay pottery bowl signed Perfina Rockwell.
The carving and hand painted details above and below the image of the elk and bear creates a perfect balance with the colors of a painted sunset with the outline of the elk and trees in black on one side and the image of the bear on the other.
The elk as a spirit animal is the symbol of stamina. The elk's only defense against a predator such as bear (which is the image on the other side of the bowl) is his ability to go the distance and to pace himself. A message for us to only take on the projects we can handle and to stop and be in tune with nature for bit in between.
The bowl has a condition issue with some white spatters of paint in some places at the top. This bowl measures approx. 3-1/2" x 5" and is signed by the artist Rockwell on the bottom, Nav and USA.
Perfina worked as an artist at the Mesa Valley Pottery in Cortez, Colorado for a time. Customers could visit the pottery works and watch the artists create their works of art and some of the artists items were available for purchase.
